The Auctioneers’ Association of Alberta 79th Annual Convention was held at the Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary, AB on January 31 to February 2, 2013. On Saturday there were approximately 150 people in attendance. We had great representation from BC as they have become part of our association.

Frederick Bodnarus of Saskatoon was a newly elected director. John Arnold, Pete Conway, Dale Menzak and John Perlich were re-elected as directors.
The other directors in good standing are Dwayne Dunkle, Darrell Johnston, Don Montgomery Darrell Domes, Wade Michener, and Gerald Zimmerman. Bill Heinke is our British Columbia representative. Lorraine Klepper is Secretary-treasurer.
We held our third annual All Around Canadian Auctioneer Championship There were 17 contestants. Doug Johnson, Camrose came in 1st,Brandon Antonini ,Calgary,2nd and Cody Hayes, Stathmore 3rd.
The Vern Scown Memorial Tyro Contest trophy was won by Kolton McIntosh ,Eriksdale, MB. The Tyro contest is an auction contest for auctioneers who have graduated from an auction school within the last two years. There were 7 auctioneers entered.
Timberlind Auctions, Buck Creek, won the best business card trophy.
Best web page trophy went to Sekura Auctions of Drayton Valley.
The photo contest was won by Faye Ison.
Due to health reason Ken could not be at the convention to receive his 60 year pin and plaque.
His daughter, Darcy received it for him.
Jack Daines and Harry Drever were in attendance to receive their 50 yr pin and plaque. Mike Lawrence was not in attendance.
Stan Turbiarz received his 40 years member pin and plaque.
Bill Henke, Don Montgomery, and Rick Wattie received their 25 yr pin and plaque. The other 25- year members not in attendance were Don Raffin and Darren Lutz.
Distinguished Service Awards went to Wayne Orsten, Airdrie.
The Association presented the Canadian Cancer Society with a check for $21,805.00.
Zimmerman Auctions and Danny Hooper were presented with a plaque for raising the most money by selling Bernie Brown prints. These pictures are Bernie Brown prints that the association purchases and the members sell them with all funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Next years Convention will be held in Red Deer.
