The Auctioneers’ Association of Alberta 80th Annual Convention was held at the Black Knight Inn, Red Deer AB on January 30 to February 1, 2014. On Saturday there were approximately130 people in attendance.
Don Montgomery from Blackfalds was elected President. John Arnold from Lethbridge was elected Vice-President.
Cody Hayes of Strathmore and Dave Johnson from Innisfail are newly elected directors. Re-elected directors are Wade Michener, from Calgary and Darrell Domes from Calgary. John Arnold, Frederick Bodnarus, Pete Conway, Dale Menzak, Dwayne Dunkle, Darrell Johnston and, Don Montgomery are the other directors. Bill.Henke is our British Columbia representative. We held our fourth annual All Around Canadian Auctioneer Championship There were 20 contestants. Brennin Jack, Prince Albert, SK placed 1st , Cody Hayes, Strathmore 2nd and Frederick Bodnarus, Saskatoon placed 3rd. Thank you to the general public for your support . There were about 50 from the public in attendance for the auction.
The Vern Scown Memorial Tyro Contest trophy was won by Michael Mahoney, from Calgary. The Tyro contest is an auction contest for auctioneers who have graduated from an auction school within the last two years. There were 13 excellent contestants. Congratulations to all.

Allen Olsen was in attendance to receive his 50 year pin and plaque. Jim Schlenker was unable to attend for his 50 yr pin and plaque. . Dennis Andruchow and Lyle Eastman were in attendance to receive their 40 year recognition. Not in attendance were Dwayne Glasier and Lyle Manning for their 40 year pin and plaque. Terry Silbernagel was in attendance to receive his 25 year pin and plaque. Not in attendance were Greg Johnson, Mark Lenz and Phillip Stewart.
Distinguished Service Award went to Brad Neal from Sherwood Park.
The Association raised $36,100.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Danny Hooper raised the most money by selling Bernie Brown prints. These pictures are Bernie Brown prints that the association purchases and the members sell them with all funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Next years Convention will be held in Edmonton at the River Cree. .
