The Auctioneers Association of Alberta held its’ 82nd Annual Convention at the Coast Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre in Calgary on February 4 to February 6th, 2016. There were approximately 130 people in attendance.
John Arnold was elected President. John is from Lethbridge. Our newly elected Vice President is Dale Menzak of Vegreville.
Tyler Ruttan, Sexsmith and Andrew Reeleder, Bentley are our newly elected directors. Re-elected directors were John Arnold, Dale Menzak, Pete Conway.
The other directors in good standing are Darrell Domes, Wade Michener, Cody Hayes , Dave Johnson, Joe Perlich, Jeff Van Wert and Bill Henke. Bill Henke is our BC liaison.
Lorraine Klepper is Secretary-treasurer.
We held our sixth annual All Around Canadian Auctioneer Championship We had 13 auctioneers registered for the competition. Ron Sekura, Drayton Valley was champion. Second place went to , Robert Lind ,Buck Creek with third going to Frederick Bodnarus, Saskatoon, SK.
The Vern Scown Memorial Tyro Contest was won by Lane Purdie, Red Deer. The Tyro Contest is an auction contest for auctioneers who have graduated from an auction school within the last two years.
Timberlind Auctions, Buck Creek, won the best Business Card
Best web page trophy went to Weaver Auctions, Tomslake,BC
The best auction photo went to Sekura-Team Auctioneers, La Crete.
Bud Haynes, Red Deer received his 50 yr pin and plaque..
Linda Baggaley, Red Deer was in attendance to receive her 40 years member pin and plaque. Pat Lawrence, Harry Lenz, Danny Rosehill, Don & Stan Stewart were recognized as 40 year members but were not in attendance.
Wayne Orsten, Calgary was in attendance to receive his 25 year pin and plaque. The other 25 pin recipients Derek Deyser, Charles Parsons and Greg Sanderson were not in attendance.
Distinguished Service Award went to Larry Graham of Calgary.
The Association presented the Canadian Cancer Society with a check for $28,588.70.
Dale Menzak and Danny Hooper were recognized as the top sellers of the pictures that raise money for the cancer society. These pictures are Bernie Brown prints that the association purchases and the members sell them with all funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Next years Convention will be held in Red Deer at the Black Knight Inn on January 26-28th,2017..
